Lifestyle Upgrades: A Goal To Grow

Do you believe that when you reach your goal, whatever that might be, that you have arrived?  Nothing more to do?

Author, speaker and motivational coach Bob Proctor believes that there is much more to setting goals than just reaching them.

Bob has a saying that goes:

“A goal is not to get – a goal is to grow”

To me, this means a couple of things.

My first interpretation is that when we start setting goals, it is probably for a material item like a flash car, a nice house or something along those lines.

Now, this is all well and good, but when that goal is reached, the appeal of that material item soon wears off.

After a while, you realise it is the feeling that getting the item gave you is what you were craving.

And of course, it is then off to the next material item that you are looking for.

People who reach any high level of success soon realise that the material things do not really matter in life. Once they have enough money to buy pretty much whatever they want, the appeal disappears.

Their goals then move into other areas that give their life real meaning to them. Things that make them happy. I have noticed that often this is in the area of giving back to others by helping others find fulfilment in their lives.

My second understanding of Bob’s statement is probably more in line with how he meant it.

He is saying that life is a journey. A journey of lots of small steps, or mini-goals if you like.

No matter how big your goal, when you reach it, you will find a bigger and better goal. That is all a part of your growth as a person.

Imagine climbing this big mountain. When you reach the top and look around to enjoy the awesome view, you will see another taller mountain that you will want to climb to get an even better view.

This is all part of your life’s journey. If you are not growing, then you are shrinking. This explains why so many go back to work after retiring. Or some even give up on life.

Bob is a clear example of this philosophy. For a man in his 80’s, he is still full of zest for life. Every day he spends hours reading and educating himself further. Forever growing.

Enjoy life to the fullest. We all only get one stab at it and it can be over before you know it.

Towards the end of your life, please don’t be one of those left in regret of all the opportunities that you let pass by during your life.

I have a sticker on the top of my monitor that reads:

“Make the NOW the primary focus of your life – Eckhart Tolle”

Just to make sure that I never forget the now.

Dream big and take action ๐Ÿ‘
