A lot of companies these days are moving their local jobs overseas. This is, of course, to save money as local employees of 1st World countries have a burden rate (wages plus overheads) way higher than the cost of employing someone with the same skillset who is employed in a developing nation. This ratio can be as high as 8 or 10 to 1. As a Project Manager in a corporation, I see this first hand.
Large companies can see the substantial savings and therefore the additional profits that they can benefit from by following this trend, and if their competitors are reducing their operational costs then they must also reduce their operating costs to remain competitive. Many companies have directives to slowly move in this direction and in a few years, some have plans to move all but the essential roles overseas.
If you see this happening in your company you may be feeling concerned that you might soon be made redundant and looking for another similar job that just is not there anymore. You can either stand there frozen staring at the headlights or you can take action now before it is too late.
