Do you find that when something in your life doesn’t go according to plan that it seems like such a big deal at the time?
This can cause a lot of unnecessary stress and frustration in your life.
But when you look back in hindsight at the recent stresses you have had, you may realise that you had blown the situation all out of proportion.
This is the subject of the latest book I have been reading called “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff… And It’s All Small Stuff” by Richard Carlson.
That title actually came from a communication from Wayne Dyer when Richard Carlson’s publishers inappropriately used a quote from Wayne in one of Richard’s previous books.
When Richard wrote to Wayne apologising and explaining what had happened, Wayne replied that there are 2 things that you need for a harmonious life –
1/ Don’t sweat the small stuff
2/ It’s all small stuff
His excellent book looks at how we often manage to turn what is essentially an inconvenience into what seems like a major catastrophe.
It is not the situations themselves that make us unhappy and stressed, it is how we perceive those problems.
If we consider every issue we encounter for what it is, and that is usually just a challenge that will allow us to grow by learning something new, then it can be easily shrugged off.
No stress. No big deal. Life goes on.
I believe that we are here on this planet to experience things. If life was easy all of the time, we would never grow.
Think of a time recently where you had to overcome a fear or a challenge. It probably wasn’t an ideal situation at the time but you probably learnt a lot from that experience.
Being stressed did not help. Getting upset did not help. You still got through it anyway so you may as well have just enjoyed the experience.
This is why it is often best to go with the flow whenever you feel resistance to what life is offering you.
So if you find that life is stressful, I highly recommend that you give this book a read (or listen) and it will give you a whole new perspective on life.
The book gives many examples of how you may improve your quality of life by how you approach such challenges.
Remember that in 100 years we will all be gone from this marvelous planet of ours and none of the things that we find ourselves stressing over will matter, or be remembered.
So remember. Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff. 🙂
Dream big and take action 👍
