The saying from London where I am originally from is “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Translated, it means that you do not need to fix something unless it is actually broken.
However, imagine where we would be today if the engineers of the day decided that the first of the horse-less carriages were more than adequate for the task at hand and did not put any more time and development into making them better.
Similarly with the home computer. Would such technology as our smartphones, iPads and the like be where they are today, or even exist, if the first home computer did not progress any further than the first production model.
Without continuous improvement of everything in our lives, we would not be where we are today.
So this approach needs to be incorporated into your mindset, especially as an entrepreneur or business owner.
Every task you do, you must always be thinking of how you can improve the process.
This is especially important for 3 fundamental reasons:
Firstly, because time is precious and you want to reduce the amount of time you take to do any task. So long as you still reach the desired outcome, of course.
Secondly, so that you can build a bullet-proof system for that task. This will minimise time and effort the next time you are doing that same task again.
And finally, by having a system, you will not need to think as much the next time. This is important as making decisions takes mental energy, so the fewer decisions you have to make, the more mental energy you will have left for making other important decisions later.
This system will also minimise errors, and, very importantly, you can pass this system to another member of your ever-expanding team to do that task for you in the future so that you can be getting on with more important things to grow your business.
By continually improving and creating systems for your more mundane and repetitive tasks, you will be able to free up a lot more of your valuable time and take your business to the next level.
Particularly if you outsource these types of tasks to your assistants or virtual assistants.
