There is a phrase or expression that is quite common and I believe that it can be extremely destructive to your future success.
It is an easy way to not even bother trying and it will make you feel justified in your lacklustre decision.
“If it seems too good to be true, it probably is”
I know that I have used this phrase in the past and you may well have too.
But if we are to create a lifestyle of freedom, it will require us to take on many new challenges. Challenges that will stretch us and take us well outside of our comfort zone.
This phrase then becomes a perfect excuse to not even try, which of course is not acceptable.
Now there is some merit to the statement. We are surrounded by adverts pretty much wherever we go.
These ads often overpromise the benefits they provide through the product or service and so we become accustomed to accepting the fact that all ads lie to us to some degree.
But when the benefit is something that we really desire, it is important to take on a more rational approach and carry out some due diligence before dismissing it.
Maybe, just maybe there is enough truth in the ad that you can achieve your goal.
Let’s look at a fitness example. If you want to get fit, the obvious choice is to join a gym. There will be a number of gyms in your neighbourhood that offer pretty much the same facilities.
Many will have differing features that may persuade you to prefer a certain gym over the rest.
Now it is time to commit and join.
Just because you have joined a gym does not mean that you will automatically get fit. Even a minor commitment of one or two half-hearted visits a week will make little difference from where you are right now.
Only full commitment will get you the results that you are craving for. Perhaps a tough, full-on 1-hour visit per day 5 or more times a week.
And within a number of months, you will see significant improvements in your fitness levels.
If you had listened to your inner voice giving you reasons why it is probably too good to be true to join a gym and get fit, then you would not have even attempted it.
A similar approach also applies when it comes to creating an online business that you love to give you freedom in your life.
The easy way would be to dismiss it as too good to be true and get back in front of your TV or Netflix.
But had you done your due diligence, you would have found that many others have created freedom in their lives via their online business.
And you could too if you had the right attitude and mindset.
Being a part of SFM like I am is giving me that opportunity and I am so glad that I did not listen to my inner voice telling me that “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is”.
I would be in a very different place than I am now.
Dream big and take action 👍
