Lifestyle Upgrades: Your Big ‘But’

I am not being rude, but do you have a big ‘But’?

As you strive to better your life and seek ways to achieve it, you will often find that your mind is great at giving you a great excuse, or a big ‘but’ as to why you shouldn’t do it.

If you know that you want to get healthy and fit and perhaps join a gym for a few workouts a week, you might feel excited at first.

Then your mind kicks in and finds a very good reason or reasons why you shouldn’t or can’t do it.

‘But I really haven’t got the time this week, I will start next week’, or

‘But when I tried this last time I only lasted a few weeks before I gave up because I wasn’t seeing any results so what’s the point’.

Your mind is extremely good at remembering times when you tried something before and didn’t get the desired outcome for some reason or other.

You remember that as a failure and feel bad. So you don’t want to try again in case you fail again.

Your mind is actually trying to protect you. But being safe and not even trying will not get you anywhere of any consequence in your life.

So what can you do?

If you know that you should join the local gym and workout regularly, then you must just do it.

Understand the voice in your head is trying to keep you safe and do it anyway. You know that you will feel so good if you do.

Taking that first step is always the hardest. Making that commitment to yourself is tough because you have probably let yourself down a number of times before. But knowing that it will get easier the more you do it should be plenty of motivation to get moving.

Once a habit is formed, after 30 days or so, it will become natural to go to the gym and it will take minimal mental effort.

What should you do if you have a bad day and find that you just can’t find the drive to go. This is where you fall back on your big ‘why’.

Think about why you really wanted to get fit and healthy in the first place. Get uncomfortable about it. Dig deep.

Is it because you feel embarrassed in front of your friends, or you want to fit into the clothes you used to wear, or you want to look good for an upcoming wedding?

Whatever that reason might be, feel the emotions that go with it. That is your big ‘why’ and that pain (or maybe it’s pleasure) is what you must revisit to get the motivation you need to keep on track.

We live in the ‘Information Age’ where we have all the information at our fingertips to make our lives exactly how we want them to be.

So why are we all so unfulfilled and not living our best lives?

It comes down to us and how we take action on that information. Society has drummed mediocrity into us from an early age.

Another example might be starting an online business to create freedom in your life. If you know that this is what you should be doing, then what is stopping you?

All of those reasons in your head that you are coming up with are just excuses to keep you safe.

Do you want to be safe like most other people, or do you want to be free?

Now start your research and find what resonates with you. Find what sounds and feels right for you.

The information is out there so start your research. Forget the ‘But’s and go make it happen. 👍
